If you've been hot-gluing foam armor at the kitchen table and telling yourself there's plenty of time, there's about five days.
YumaCon, the city's annual comics, anime, gaming and pop culture convention, is Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive. The City of Yuma's Arts and Culture Division puts it on. (City of Yuma)
What's on the floor
The city's lineup for the weekend:
- The Cosplay Masquerade
- Video games and tabletop games
- A vendor hall
- Panels
- Special guests and cosplay judges
The masquerade is the one the organizers keep pointing to. "We're especially looking forward to welcoming everyone back for the Cosplay Masquerade," Cultural Affairs Manager Ana Padilla said when the city announced the dates. (City of Yuma)
Tickets and the kid rules
Tickets are sold through the city's YumaCon page, YumaAz.gov/YumaCon.
Two rules worth knowing before you load up the car:
- Children 6 and under get in free.
- Children 14 and under must be with an adult.
The event is open to all ages. (City of Yuma)
A couple of practical things
For panel schedules and guest updates, check the city page or the Yuma Art Center's social media before you go if there's a particular panel or guest you're planning around. Questions go to the Yuma Art Center at 928-373-5202. (Signals AZ, city release)
And for the cosplayers doing the math: a full costume in Yuma in November is a lot friendlier proposition than one in July. Small mercies.
