Some of next week’s local government business concerns the things people tend to notice when they stop working: sewers, roads and drainage.
The Yuma County Board of Supervisors meets Monday, Oct. 19, at 9 a.m. at 197 S. Main St. Its posted agenda includes a proposed $193,000 change order for final design consulting on the Orange Grove-Rancho Mesa Verde Sewer Improvement project.
Supervisors are also being asked to add $176,800 to the County’s participation in the City of Yuma’s pavement-preservation contract. That would buy an additional 52,000 square yards of chip seal, increasing the County’s authorized quantity from 512,000 to 564,000 square yards. The total estimated cost would rise from $1,740,800 to $1,917,600.
Both requests are on the consent calendar. Those items ordinarily move together in one vote, although a supervisor can ask to pull one for separate discussion. Neither increase has been approved by its appearance on the agenda.
A fee hearing and drainage work
The Treasurer’s Office is asking the Board to hold a public hearing on proposed revisions to its fee schedule, then consider Resolution 2026-42. The agenda calls for the revised schedule to take effect immediately if adopted. It does not, by itself, tell readers which individual fees would change or by how much.
Other proposed business includes an agreement with ADOT to finance the 44th Street multi-use pathway between Avenue 12½E and Colina Avenue; authorization to negotiate engineering services for the West Yuma Mesa Storm Drainage System Update; and a possible contract for Atlantic Avenue area drainage plans and Gila Acres roadway-improvement design. The agenda does not list contract amounts for the latter two items.
The Board is also scheduled to receive an overview of unaudited fiscal-year 2025–26 General Fund revenue and spending trends. Unaudited figures are an early look at the books, rather than a completed financial audit.
City meetings follow
The City’s meeting calendar lists a work session Tuesday, Oct. 20, and a regular Council meeting Wednesday, Oct. 21. Both are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at One City Plaza.
When checked Oct. 16, the calendar still did not provide an agenda or packet for either meeting. There is, however, a separately posted annexation item, O2026-027, marked “Agenda Ready” for Oct. 21. It concerns the Arachnida Farms and Paradise Yuma Grove properties southeast of 43rd Street and Avenue 4E.
That item is a proposal to annex the land with initial agricultural zoning. It would not itself grant the future industrial rezoning the owners intend to seek. Yuma Informed’s earlier annexation coverage explains the distinction.
The separately posted item is not a complete City agenda. Check the official calendars again before attending, especially for late documents or schedule changes.
