Not every civic improvement needs a giant price tag to be worth noticing. Sometimes it is a new slide at the park.
The Town of Wellton announced Oct. 22 that a playground slide had been installed at Butterfield Park. Mayor Michelle Jones, council members, Town staff and community members attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The Town credited Kristan Sheppeard with helping secure funding through the Yuma Association of Realtors. It also recognized Jones and the Public Works and Butterfield Parks and Golf departments for their contributions.
There is now a more precise figure than the “over $7,000” in the initial news coverage. The association’s Oct. 22 press release, attached to KYMA’s report, identifies a $7,500 National Association of Realtors Placemaking Grant.
That is the association’s stated grant amount. It is not a verified total project cost. Neither the Town announcement nor the reviewed release provides a complete invoice or accounting of any additional Town contribution.
What is established by the Town’s announcement is the completed addition. For families who use Butterfield Park, that is the part they can actually use.
