Yuma residents looking for work, an internship or a path to a university degree can meet employers and university representatives at Arizona Western College on Monday, Oct. 19. The college's Yuma Transfer and Career Expo is free and open to the public, including people who are not enrolled at AWC.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the 3C Breezeway at AWC's Yuma Campus, 2020 S. Avenue 8E. Visitors can ask about full- and part-time jobs, internships, volunteer opportunities, university programs and transferring credits toward a bachelor's degree, according to the college's event listing.
AWC's Oct. 13 announcement says more than 30 employers, agencies, organizations and universities combined are scheduled to attend. That's a count across all those groups, not 30 employers offering jobs.
Who's expected to attend
The scheduled employers and agencies include Onvida Health, ARIZONA@WORK Yuma County, Sunset Health, Republic Services, Rural Metro Fire Department, Yuma County Government, Yuma Police Department, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Border Patrol, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma programs and Yuma School District One. Other names on the list include Horizon Health and Wellness, Chick-fil-A Yuma and the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
University participants include Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona, Grand Canyon University, CETYS Universidad, New Mexico State University, Southern Utah University and the University of Maryland Global Campus. AWC's Transfer Center, Career and Advisement Services, and Human Resources are also scheduled to participate.
The full participant list appears on AWC's event page. Being listed does not guarantee that an organization will have a particular vacancy or make job offers at the expo.
Rosa Báez-Ruiz, AWC's Career Services Development Coordinator, said in the college's announcement that exploring career options early can help students make better decisions about their majors, careers and transfer plans.
Before you go
AWC's published event information does not say whether preregistration or a check-in step is required. For clarification, contact the Transfer Center at 928-344-7638 or transfer.center@azwestern.edu.
